It seems that the more recent versions of Java break the browser based meetingroom in ST Community servers.

Follow this technote #21615334 to resolve the issue.

Making Sametime work on iOS

02/01/12 08:57 am, by , Categories: Administration, IBM, Lotus, Sametime
*warning: high sarcasm levels*

We wanted to use the Sametime iOS client for our iPad, so we installed Sametime 8.5.2 and applied IFR 1. Then we created PMR's, PMR's, PMR's and PMR's, and now I can inform you of the "well documented" steps you have to take after installing the software.

Step 0: Get the latest version of the iOS app (or install updates). There are some mighty important fixes in there (part of which coming from my forementioned PMR's).

Step 1: Creating a Proxy Server database to support iPhone clients after installing Interim Feature Release 1

Step 2: Push Notifications not working

Step 3: Opening ports to support iPhone clients.
Do not look at the Ports used by Sametime servers document, cause the ports you need to open are only mentioned in a comment, not in the official list.

So, after you've done this, you will actually get your iOS clients to work.

Advisory: Range header DoS vulnerability Apache HTTPD 1.3/2.x (CVE-2011-3192) -> IBM HTTP Server too!

08/25/11 10:18 am, by , Categories: Administration, IBM, Websphere, security, Sametime
Go read this, and apply the fixes. Your IBM HTTP server with the Websphere servers is just a rebranded Apache.

D:\IBM\bin>Apache.exe -v
Server version: IBM_HTTP_Server/ Apache/2.0.47

(see update below)

Excerpt below:

          Apache HTTPD Security ADVISORY

Title: Range header DoS vulnerability Apache HTTPD 1.3/2.x

CVE: CVE-2011-3192:
Date: 20110824 1600Z
Product: Apache HTTPD Web Server
Versions: Apache 1.3 all versions, Apache 2 all versions

A denial of service vulnerability has been found in the way the multiple
overlapping ranges are handled by the Apache HTTPD server:

An attack tool is circulating in the wild. Active use of this tools has
been observed.

The attack can be done remotely and with a modest number of requests can
cause very significant memory and CPU usage on the server.

The default Apache HTTPD installation is vulnerable.

There is currently no patch/new version of Apache HTTPD which fixes this
vulnerability. This advisory will be updated when a long term fix
is available.

A full fix is expected in the next 48 hours.

Update: The fix reportedly working for 2.0 and 2.2 doesn't work on 2.0 as the syntax is different. Apply the following:

# Drop the Range header when more than 5 ranges.
# CVE-2011-3192
SetEnvIf Range (,.*?){5,} bad-range=1
RequestHeader unset Range

# optional logging.
CustomLog logs/range-CVE-2011-3192.log common env=bad-range

8.5.2 sametime window problem -> A solution

12/03/10 09:07 am, by , Categories: IBM, Lotus, Sametime
Thanks to one of my blog readers Deb, we've now got a workaround for this.

We've run across the same thing and have found a work around.
If you turn off the tabbed feature for the Sametime window and go back into a chat session,
resize your window to how you want it and then go back into your preferences to change back
to tabbed sametime window, the size will stick.

Superb tip!

8.5.2 sametime window problem

09/22/10 09:04 am, by , Categories: IBM, Lotus, Sametime
I've got a problem with my 8.5.2 client. The embedded sametime client window won't remember my size preferences, but returns to default everytime.

After resize:

Close and reopen:

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Sametime 8.5 system console installer problem

12/29/09 04:56 pm, by , Categories: IBM, Lotus, Sametime
I've been trying to install the sametime system console and I keep getting errors.

The internet is no help as it seems noone has actually tried installing the monster yet.

I've attached the XML file you can generate from the installer. >> installfailure.xml <<

The errors as reported in the log:

The following validation errors were present with the command line arguments: profileName: Action can not be executed while server is running

Any suggestions? It happens near the end of the install process.

Chris & Carl where right. Another try, another error.

I've opened a PMR. I'm done trying.
