Things holding back my 8.5 upgrade
There are some factors that are holding back my earlier "yippee" mode, when I heard about all the new domino features.
I've compiled an (incomplete?) list of items that are delaying my 8.5 upgrade.
Feel free to add stuff, or tell me that I'm wrong.
The list of items not supported:
So, it's IBM only stuff, holding me back so far, but the lack of sametime support is a real problem, because I want to relight the internal chat project in our upgrade process.
This is offcourse not a complete list of products and their support, but it lists the main tools we use every day.

The list of items not supported:
- No sametime support. Showstopper
- CA process and ID Vault bite.
- Blackberry enterprise server. (v4.1.6)
- Tivoli TSM Backup
- Commonstore
- TrendMicro Scanmail for Domino
- WorkplaceControl

We are running Sametime 8.0.2 on Domino 8.5 since two months - no problems at all.

Are you referring to Sametime Server 8.0.2 not being supported on Domino 8.5? As Sametime client support is most certainly included in the 8.5 client. We are running in a mixed 8.0.2/8.5 Server and mixed 7.0.3 and 8.5 client environment as we've done during other migrations. If you need to take advantage of DAOS and other server improvements you should consider moving forward as ID Vault can be added later, once the CA issue has been resolved. My two cents!

I didn't say it wouldn't work, I said it's not supported ;-).
For my envirnoment, I can't take my chances on sametime not working. The local client works perfect, and I've got it in test and couldn't fault it, but it remains unsupported.

So why wouldn't you leave the Sametime and CA servers on 8.0.2, and upgrade the remaining servers?

Presumably you only have one server which is the issue. Otherwise you have no reason NOT to upgrade all the others.
We have been running St802 on Domino 85 since it came out and aside from one item9a logging service which we don't use anyway), it runs perfectly fine.
The DAOS/CA thing, okay I can understand that one. But again you COULD do it if you have multiple servers.

I have a few show stoppers too with 8.5
-Sametime 8.0.2 not supported
-Domdoc 7 not supported
-Group technologies IQ Suite not supported (supposed to be 1Q09)
-IBM Tivoli Identity Manager Notes agent for password synch not supported (they said 1Q09)
I hope all the above will clear up before the summer!
Added items to consider...
-We are investigating Tivoli Data protection (as an addition to TSM)
-Captaris Rightfax ...i have to see if its supported on 8.5, we just upgraded to RF9.3

Well we needed Notes 8.5, but had to loose Quickr Connectors 8.1.x because they do not support multi-user which we need for Roaming and OS Security.
Sametime Advanced has also been shelved because it still does not support Notes 8.5.x and the US date format issue. Further browser support it pants with Connections and StAdv.
Notes 8.5.0 also has a bug where a "Response" to a "Response" becomes a "Response to Response" instead of remaining a "Reponse", means we had to do some design changes to our apps. Well done to our devies.
Servers with Quickr and Sametime remain 8.0.2FP1 in the mean time, but all the others gone 8.5.0. Watch ODS48 with Quickr and Sametime !
So with the final build of 8.5 being the end of Nov 08, it is amazing to see that 4 months on we still have compatibility issues with Notes and companion products.
Seems the Open Source community moves much faster and software is more reliable that proprietary software. I have the same issue with VMWare and new Linux kernels every time... so much for being able to use VMWare to test products. Giving that a think-over.

The new richtext signatures of Notes 8.5 break my central signature administration solution...
I am able to move to Domino/Notes 8.5, but have to stay at the 8.0.2 mail template (missing of course some of the new 8.5-features...)
